Like many other people, we have been reflecting on 2021. We would like to share a brief overview of what has happened this year—real life as it is.
Last February we moved back to Mexico.
We continue working with Oasis (a local back-to-school program) where we serve on the board. Saul oversaw many construction and maintenance projects that were needed in the three different Oasis locations.
This fall, I started my weekly sewing program in the community of Las Aves, but have seen a low turnout. Saul restarted his construction business, which in all honesty has been a struggle. It’s been more and more difficult for him to find men committed to working full time—willing to be taught. But, he currently has three men who he’s teaching and mentoring. One of them is a young man we know from the orphanage, who at one time slept on our couch many a night and we see a lot of potential in him!
In our home, we’ve had some highs and lows when it comes to figuring out online/homeschool. We’ve landed in the middle—we are all enjoying it, and are a lot less stressed. (Hallelujah!)
Over the summer we invited a young woman (whom we know from serving in the orphanage—years ago) named Arianna. She has some physical limitations, but, we are hoping to help her go through some healing and help her increase her skills in order to live more independently.
We had the privilege of sending our oldest son Moy, off to university in Ensenada (a city 2 hours from where we live). He is studying to be a Physiotherapist.
We’ve struggled with constant water issues at our house, but they’ve almost been resolved. Saul is building a new cistern to hold water so we can have water trucked in. As a result, our plans to finish our master bathroom were put on hold. Having water running in your house most definitely takes precedence over having the luxury of a bathtub installed—which would be pretty useless without water anyway! 😂
We celebrated Christmas with a full house, our 2 oldest girls joined us along with Amber’s Dad who came from Canada.
This year has been full of ups and downs but God has been faithful! He has provided for every need and been faithful in leading us forward—where He wants us to be.
We are currently praying about a possible shift in our ministry focus, but we aren’t quite ready to share it publicly. We are thankful to be here for “such a time as this” and grateful for all of those who support us in doing what God has called us to do.
