“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us.”

Ephesians 3:20

Firstly—Thanks for your support throughout 2023 and into 2024! As we move into this new year, we continue with our responsibilities here in the Middle East; supporting the team in the region and reaching the Unreached.

2023 in Review—2023 launched with our displacement from one country to our placement on the nearby island, our new resident country. From here we are able to economically travel to and from the team nearby, as well as explore possible new fields. We have hosted & served new workers as they navigate the ongoing challenges of visa applications in the region.

One-Year AnniversaryFebruary 6th marks the first anniversary of the historic earthquake that rocked this region. Officially, 50,000 lives were lost on that tragic day.  Our team soon found themselves either on location or mobilizing finance and or material for the relief effort.

Twelve months later, the team has made numerous journeys to the region and has established meaningful friendships with several families. Currently, with many still living in tents, our teammates have recently begun assembling temporary winterized shelters for a few of the families they have befriended. Beginning in August, I (Wendell) made 3 journeys with team members to assist in shelter assembly.

The Island—In October, Maureen and I welcomed 4 team members.  All of them are currently in the visa application process here. Establishing a residence (base) on this island has proven profitable and served the new workers well. From here they will investigate their ultimate field location (unreached nations). During this process, all of us continue to learn the language and culture. Together, we befriend locals during our weekly English club and host a spiritual gathering.

Additional highlights for 2023:

  • Applied for residency which was granted (reapplication to be submitted in March 2024)
  • Hosted 9 team members at the ‘Beyond’ residence/base throughout the year
  • Travelled to connect with each of our team members
  • Attended various networking events
  • Celebrated the arrival of the newest team member ‘Baby J’, born in July!
  • Journeyed to a new place with team members—our goal was to investigate a new field in light of unstable visa conditions
  • As mentioned, made 3 earthquake relief visits
  • We host an English Club and Spiritual gathering with the team here

PRAY for:

  • Creativity and resources for local believers as they lead in the rebuilding of the many communities devastated by the earthquake
  • Continued physical strength and safety for our team as they continue providing long-term earthquake relief
  • New team members arriving, obtaining visas, and finalizing ultimate fields of service
