Disciples who make disciples.
One afternoon, we were walking back from the bus stop to our building. A lady passed by and kindly greeted the kids, then suddenly turned to Mom to ask if they could be friends on a communication app!
It turned out this lady’s mom is one of the grandmas who takes the grandkids downstairs daily, so even though we had not yet met the lady, she and the kids had already met the grandma and the granddaughter and had hung out together many times. Grandma had been giving high praise about our family and how well our kids behaved; this lady (the mom) was intrigued and wanted to learn more about parenting from us. We are humbled!
In this country, many parents are busy with work and don’t get home till sometimes as late as 8 or 9 pm, hence little time spent with kids during weekdays. Grandparents, especially grandma’s, usually choose to be away from home so they can help raise the grandkids in the city. There might be some opportunities to speak wisdom and life into families/parents. We are sensitive and seeking the Lord on how best to approach it.
Right now we enjoy and celebrate the connections we have with these beautiful people. On a side note, our daughter’s language has improved tremendously simply from hanging out with friends most mornings!
D has now been in his role at the new school for coming up on a month! One of the most compelling opportunities is 35 minutes a day with Grade 9 boys called “Advisory.” This time is set aside for weekly Assemblies, two days of homework (check-ins and catch-up), one day of fun and games, and a day of deeper discussion around important things in life.
It’s meant to bind the group together, to have fun, and build a place of trust and friendship. There was a bit of hesitation in the first week, but they have been growing in trust and comfort and having a lot of fun together (maybe too much at times). 🤪
Thanks for your prayer—we are seeking wisdom from above as we build friendship and connection. Curiosity about us has not died down, and people are asking personal questions, which is a great open door.
