Silly me

Disciples who make disciples.

The barriers felt huge: first—the language, and then finding where we could meet the people we desire to be with!  Just kinda all seemed impossible, and I was stressed.

It began in a supermarket. As we moved around, gathering our groceries, we noticed a kindergarten class learning how to make traditional cakes. It wasn’t long before they saw our interest—inviting us to join. We absolutely loved it (and the cake). As we were leaving, another invitation was extended (by the Principal) to join in a Holiday Celebration at the school the following week.

It was a happy gathering; children performed for their loved ones while we munched on the snacks provided. It should be said that we were surrounded by the loudest speaker system we’ve ever encountered! Ha!

We met another mom who explained the event, practicing her very limited English. By the end of the event, she told me she would invite me to join her and her other friends for coffee. She said their kids would play with mine and they would show me the city. How sweet!

But these still aren’t the ladies we feel led to, I thought. How are we supposed to reach the people we are called to reach?

Two days later, the principal texted me with a plan: we were going to meet the moms and their kids at a big park. I was nervous but excited, trying to pace my feelings: It’s okay that these aren’t the ladies on my heart…maybe Father wants me to be close to these ladies…but it’s also okay if we aren’t close friends. Maybe this will just help with my language learning? Maybe this is where my kids will make friends? At least the park will be nice…

When we arrived, we were surprised to discover the invitation included three moms—all ladies from the group of people on our hearts! And one of them (we will call her Angela) was my age, with a baby between my children’s ages, who also spoke English!

We spent the afternoon eating delicious snacks, sipping tea, miming through broken discussions, and watching our kids play together. It was such a blessing. I’ve since stayed in contact with Angela, and we met this morning to drink coffee while our kiddos played. I’m hopeful Father will use this relationship to bring Angela to Himself.

My heart is honestly so full. Wow. Talk about impossible—silly me—Father told us to watch what he would do with the impossible!
